Tow and Fine Sanction Not Socialized Enough

The enactment of tow and Rp 500 thousand fine sanction applied by Jakarta Transportation Department since Monday (9/8) is assessed not socialized enough to the public, especially the thing related to the procedure in retrieving the cars towed in the raid against illegal parking.

There should be complete socialization on retrieving the cars that were towed. So, people don’t have to be going back and forth to retrieve their cars

Since the sanction is applied, it is recorded there are 11 cars towed to Pulogebang Goods Terminal. To retrieve their vehicles, the car owners must pay fine for as much as Rp 500 thousand each in accordance to the regulation set by Jakarta Provincial Government. The fine payment is conducted through DKI Bank account to be then remitted to regional treasury.

Helma (40), whose car towed, admitted that she had to go back and forth from Jakarta Transportation Department office in Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, to Pulogebang Goods Terminal, East Jakarta, to get her car back. According to her, after her car was towed by the officers, she directly came to Pulogebang Goods Terminal to retrieve her car. However, her intention was rejected by the officers there because she could not show the proof of fine payment in DKI Bank and the vehicle retrieval letter from Jakarta Transportation Department.

Two Days, Transportation Dept Reaps Rp 11 Million from Fine

“There should be complete socialization on retrieving the cars that were towed. So, people don’t have to be going back and forth to retrieve their cars. At least the procedure is written on the parking restriction banners installed,” she lamented, Friday (9/12).

Responding on this matter, Head of Pulogebang Goods Terminal, Affandi Nofrizal, admitted that many car owners came in furious and protested when they were going to retrieve their cars. However, his party understands such actions because they were in state of panic.

“Most of the car owners came in here angry because they could not retrieve their cars instantly. We’re only following the rules. As long as they cannot show the proof of fine payment in DKI Bank and the vehicle retrieval letter from Jakarta Transportation Department, their cars cannot be retrieved,” he asserted.
